Kadajah's HyperHit - MvC-Style Special Combo
Elevate your combat. Turn your best attacks into unforgettable spectacles.
Bring the hype of classic 2D arcade fighting games right into your RPG Maker project! Inspired by the legendary Marvel vs Capcom 1 Hyper Combo screens, this plugin completely transforms how your ultimate attacks feel. When a tagged skill or item is used, the battle freezes, the screen flashes, and an epic animated cinematic overlay takes over before dealing devastating damage!
Give your players the satisfaction of a true "Ultimate Skill", or terrify them when a boss triggers their signature desperation move with a custom screen-shattering cut-in.
v1.5 Update: Added a massive array of new background patterns (Triangles, Shatter, Pulse Waves, Circuit) and dynamic Entry Effects (Bounce, Swing, Skew). Introduced the "Background Scope" parameter, allowing patterns to either fill the entire screen or act as a glowing margin strictly around the bust shape. Also added "Half Screen Gradient" and "Gradual Background Fade" options for even smoother transitions.
Key Features
- Iconic Cinematic Overlay: Simply add the <HyperHit> notetag to any Skill or Item. The plugin handles the battle freeze, the portrait slide-in, the text slams, and the seamless return to battle action.
- Deep Character Customization: Use notetags on Actors and Enemies to define their look.
- <HyperBust: filename>: Set a custom cut-in portrait.
- <HyperSide: left/right>: Force characters to enter from specific sides of the screen.
- <HyperBgColor1: #hex> / <HyperBgColor2: #hex>: Override global background colors to match the specific aura or element of the character!
- Massive Visual Customization:
- Bust Shapes: Frame your portraits in 8 different geometric shapes: Square, Trapezoid, Circle, Hexagon, Diamond, Parallelogram, Octagon, and Shield.
- Entry Effects: 14 unique animation styles! Make portraits Slide, Fade, Zoom, Spin, Drop, Rise, Bounce, Swing, Skew, Flip, Pop, and more.
- Background Patterns: Over 29 fully animated background effects including Sunbursts, Speedlines, Space Stars, Digital Matrices, Sonar Pings, Shattering Glass, Hexagons, and Wormholes.
- Image Backgrounds & Effects: Don't want vector patterns? Use a custom background image and apply effects to it like Glitch, Pulse, Shake, Wave, or Float.
- The Preset System: Create and save multiple aesthetic setups as "Presets" (e.g., "Solar Flare", "Synthwave", "Jackpot") right in the plugin parameters. Change them dynamically or use the "Random" preset to surprise your players every time!
- Text & Audio Control: Fully customize the Name and Attack fonts, sizes, colors, gradient alphas, and offsets. Tie it all together with customizable screen shakes, white flashes, and Sound Effects for the cinematic start, name reveal, and impact.
Creative Gameplay Mechanics
- Elemental Finishing Moves: Use character-specific background colors and presets to reflect their element. A pyromancer slides in with a Red/Orange gradient and the "Fire" background pattern, while a hacker character uses a Green gradient with the "Binary Rain" or "Matrix" pattern.
- The "Random" Hype: Create dozens of varied presets in the plugin manager and set the active preset to random. Every time a character uses an ultimate, the game generates a completely unique aesthetic, keeping grinding visually refreshing.
- Event-Triggered Cut-Ins: HyperHit isn't strictly tied to skills! Use the built-in Plugin Commands or Script Calls (window.KadajahHyperHit.trigger) to manually trigger a cinematic cut-in during an event, dialogue sequence, or right before a boss fight begins.
Perfect Game Examples
- Anime & Action RPGs: Essential for high-energy games that want over-the-top, highly stylized special attacks.
- Sci-Fi / Cyberpunk Games: Capitalize on the "Glitch", "Circuit", and "Radar" backgrounds combined with Hexagon or Diamond shapes for a futuristic interface feel.
- Superhero Games: Perfect for recreating that comic-book aesthetic with bold trapezoid cut-ins and heavy speedlines.
Technical Specs & Plugin Compatibility
Built for stability and seamless visual layering.
The Kadajah HyperHit System utilizes a standalone Scene (Scene_HyperHit) that temporarily overlays the current battle. It uses non-destructive Method Aliasing to pause the Window_BattleLog action sequence.
- Modified Classes: Safely aliases Window_BattleLog.prototype.startAction to intercept tagged skills, queueing the overlay without deleting or replacing standard RPG Maker battle logic. Also extends Scene_Battle to pause updates while the cinematic is running.
- VisuStella MZ Compatibility: Highly compatible. Because the cinematic pauses the core battle loop and runs its own sequence, it avoids directly conflicting with VisuStella's Battle Core action sequences or damage execution phases.
- Performance: Uses PIXI.js graphics and masks to render geometric shapes and animated vector backgrounds dynamically, ensuring smooth 60fps performance without requiring massive animated sprite sheets.
Terms of Use
- Commercial and non-commercial projects: Free to use (Allowed).
- Credit: Must credit Kadajah.
- Editing: You are permitted to edit the plugin's code for your own project's use.
